Apple announced the M6 MacBook Pro, a new 14-inch laptop, on Oct. 27, 2026. Apple said it starts at $1,999 in the U.S. Students pay $1,899. Pre-orders open Oct. 28, and the first units arrive Friday, Nov. 6.

Shelly Goldberg, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering, called it a “fantastic combination of performance, capability, and value.” Apple pitches the laptop at college students, business users, and creators.

What the M6 MacBook Pro offers

M6 chip and memory

Apple said M6 has a 12-core CPU, a 12-core GPU, and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. The CPU and GPU each gain two cores. Apple claims graphics run up to 30% faster than on M5. It says on-device AI work runs up to 25% faster.

The base model has 16GB of memory, and Apple offers up to 32GB. Apple’s release does not list the base storage. 9to5Mac reported 1TB for the $1,999 model.

Apple compared the new laptop with a 14-inch M5 model. In its tests, the M6 model ran Xcode builds, Blender ray tracing, and LLM prompt processing up to 1.3 times faster. Against the 13-inch M1 model, Apple reports 2.5 times faster Xcode builds. Apple ran these tests itself.

M6 MacBook Pro display, battery, and ports

Apple kept the Liquid Retina XDR display and offers a nano-texture option that cuts glare. Apple said the battery lasts up to 24 hours, the longest ever in a Mac. Fast charging reaches 50% in 30 minutes with a higher-wattage adapter, such as Apple’s 96W model.

The port list is long. It has HDMI, MagSafe 3, three Thunderbolt 4, an SDXC card slot, and a headphone jack. New this time are Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. Colors are space black and silver, and the laptop runs macOS 27.

Apple lists a 12MP Center Stage camera with Desk View and a six-speaker sound system. The laptop supports up to two external displays. Memory bandwidth reaches up to 170GB/s. Apple also said the Neural Engine is up to 1.9 times faster than M5. LLM prompt processing is up to 13 times faster than on the 13-inch M1 model, it said.

M6 MacBook Pro pricing and availability

Apple will take pre-orders in 35 countries and regions, including the U.S. Leasing runs through Apple Upgrade, a program with Klarna. Payments start at $38.99 a month for 36 months, before taxes and any trade-in credit. Eligible U.S. buyers can also use Apple Card Monthly Installments at 0% APR, subject to credit approval. Apple said the laptop uses 45% recycled content overall, including a 100% recycled aluminum enclosure.

What the M6 MacBook Pro leaves open

Apple’s release gives only the starting price. Prices for more memory and storage are on its configuration page. Apple said Siri AI is in beta in macOS 27.2. Some server-based features have daily usage limits. 9to5Mac reported that the M6 model replaces the base M5 MacBook Pro. The M5 Pro and M5 Max models stay on sale.

Apple also announced a new iMac with M6 the same day. For another recent Apple launch, see the Jolt Journal’s iPhone Duo deep dive.

Editor’s Take

Apple is selling this model on value. The $1,999 price comes with 16GB of memory, a 24-hour battery claim, and a full set of ports. Its own numbers show gains of 20% to 30% over M5, so owners of that model have little reason to rush. The biggest jumps are for people on M1 or Intel Macs.

Wait for independent tests of the M6 MacBook Pro before you pre-order. Apple measured the 24-hour battery figure itself in September 2026, and it says battery life varies by use and configuration.
