Apple is now facing two lawsuits over slowing down iPhones intentionally

Well, this shouldn’t really come as a surprise, but rather something that was bound to happen. Just two days after Apple came out admitting that it’s intentionally slowing down older iPhones with older batteries, the company is now facing lawsuits. Apple is intentionally slowing down older iPhones for a number of reasons, mainly to help prevent sudden unexpected shutdowns.

The Atlas Consumer Law group in Chicago claims that because Apple is slowing down iPhones intentionally, they are in violation of deceptive business laws in Illinois, as well as in North Carolina and Indiana. “Apple’s failure to inform consumers these updates would wreak havoc on the phone’s performance is being deemed purposeful, and if proven, constitutes the unlawful and decisive withholding of material information,” says the press release for the lawsuit.

The California lawsuit against Apple is for a similar manner, but it focuses on wanting Apple to ask for consumer consent by giving them the ability to opt-in, should they choose to, if they want to slow down their iPhones through software manipulation, according to Quartz.
