Surprise, surprise! As part of its Mac-focused week, Apple has announced the redesigned Mac Mini with M4 chip. The new Mac Mini is now comes powered by Apple’s M4 silicon and its even smaller than before.
The Quick Details
Apple’s new Mac Mini is powered by the M4 chip, supports ray tracing, and will come with 16GB of RAM as the minimum moving forward. Surprisingly (well, maybe not), the machine continues to start at $599 for the regular M4 chip. If you’re looking for more power, you can get the more powerful M4 Pro Mac Mini with the starting price point of $1,399.
How can I order the Mac Mini M4?
As of right now, Apple is only accepting preorders for the Mac Mini. If you choose to preorder, you will get it around November 8th, which is when it will become available in stores.
Let’s dig into the new Mac Mini
Design of Mac Mini
First thing about the new Mac Mini you will notice is the small-factor design. Apple has shrunk the device considerably. It was already fairly small to begin with for a computer that powers like a desktop. It’s five inches in both length and width, more specifically.
Ports, Ports, and More Ports
Even with the smaller form factor, Apple managed to house plenty of ports in the new Mac Mini. You’ll be able to find the following:
- Two USB-C ports
- A 3.5mm audio jack
- Ethernet port
- HDMI port
- Three USB-C/Thunderbolt ports
With the new Mac Mini, you’re getting five USB-C ports in total, in addition to the others. Plenty of power in such a small device.
Depending on the M4 model you choose will determine how much power you will get through the Thunderbolt ports. For example, the regular M4 chip includes Thunderbolt 4, but with the M4 Pro chip, you will get the Thunderbolt 5 output, considerably more powerful.
Let’s review the new Mac Mini performance
In terms of performance, the M4 Pro Mac Mini will deliver exceptional performance with its 14 CPU and 20 GPU cores. You’re able to configure the amount of RAM you want on the device, with the base level including 16GB RAM and can be further configured from there.
Storage-wise, the Mac Mini will top out at 8TB. The standard considerations include both the 256GB and 512GB. 512GB storage is the starting standard in the M4 Pro Mac Mini.
Wrap up
It’s been quite the week for Apple so far, and we’re only on Tuesday. On Monday, Apple announced the M4 iMac and rolled out the new Apple Intelligence software update across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
We’re expecting to hear a lot more news from Apple, especially surrounding the upgrades for MacBook Pros.
