President Trump signed an executive order to promote broadband in rural areas

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order to give rural areas access to high-speed broadband network, reports USA Today. The order will make it easier for companies to install high-speed broadband networks in rural areas and provide services to customers.

This move is designed to help tackle the economic challenges of having broadband infrastructure in rural communities. Two years ago, the Obama administration stated that 39 percent of people don’t have access to broadband.

President Trump earlier this year commented on his “$1 trillion infrastructure proposal”, but the thing here is that while he signed this executive order, it doesn’t appear to offer any funding benefits to help install broadband in rural communities. Instead of funding, it expedites federal permitting requirements, basically removing governmental regulatory pains for broadband companies looking to bring and operate wireless towers in rural areas.

Trump signed the executive order in front of nearly 5,000 American Farm Bureau Federation members in Nashville. He told them, “Those towers are going to go up, and you’re going to have great, great broadband.”
