The new Apple TV 4K gets a faster chip, a built-in smart home hub, and a new version of Siri. Apple announced it on October 13 at $299, and pre-orders are open in the U.S. and 29 other countries and regions, Apple said. It reaches stores on Friday, November 13.
What’s New in the New Apple TV 4K
What chip does the new Apple TV 4K use?
The box runs on the A19 chip. Apple says the CPU is up to 50% faster and the GPU is up to twice as fast as the previous generation. A new dedicated AV1 decoder helps streams use less bandwidth. Those are Apple’s own figures, so independent tests will show how much they matter in daily use.
How does Siri AI work on the new Apple TV 4K?
Siri AI is a beta that needs tvOS 27.2. It opens a full-screen interface and takes follow-up questions during playback, with answers in a small overlay. With an Apple Intelligence iPhone or iPad nearby, it can use personal context too. At launch, it is English only, in the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK. It is not available in the EU, and some server-side features have daily limits.
What else is new?
Three far-field microphones let you say “Hey Siri” during playback. The Siri Remote keeps its design but adds Find My support, with Precision Finding on the newest remote when paired with an iPhone Duo, iPhone Air, or iPhone 17 or later. The play-sound feature is exclusive to that remote. The box also works as a smart home hub with Wi-Fi and Thread, and it can show doorbell alerts on the TV, with two-way talk and lock control.
Can it be part of a surround setup?
Yes. Apple says four HomePod mini 2 or HomePod (2nd generation) speakers can form a surround system, in matching front and rear pairs. The speakers calibrate timing and levels to the room.
How much does it cost?
The price is $299, or $49.83 a month for six months through Apple Card Monthly Installments, subject to credit approval. Apple’s page does not list storage options or colors.
Editor’s Take
The upgrade is about more than speed. The new Apple TV 4K wants to be the home’s hub, with Siri, cameras, and speakers all tied together. Siri AI is still a beta and limited to a few languages, so the long-term value depends on how it matures. For more on Apple’s fall hardware, see our look at the $1,999 iPhone Duo.
