google10:45 AM – Google continues to expand Android’s reach with another latest attempt.  According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, the search giant is teaming up with German automaker Audi in a collaborative project to bring Android in the car.  Next week’s CES in Las Vegas could be where we will get to see everything hands-on.

We have also seen Apple giving a push to their iOS in the car program and now Google is pushing for the same route.  The search giant will be announcing partnerships with several other automotive companies, as well as NVIDIA, to bring Android as an essential tool for the future.  The ability to have many Google services such as Maps and Music in your car will be very useful.  First, there will be no need to make purchases for dedicated GPS systems that you buy from companies such as Garmin or TomTom.

While Google is just getting things started in the car arena, Apple is already quite a bit ahead.  The Cupertino giant has already obtained support from several automotive companies such as Mercedes-Benz, General Motors Co. and Honda Motor Co.

Thilo Koslowski, an analyst at the research firm Gartner Inc says that “the car is becoming the ultimate mobile device.”  He continues to state that “Apple and Google see that and are trying to line up allies to bring their technology into the vehicle.”  What Kosolowski says is true seeing as when we travel everyday, whether it be out of town or simply driving to work, we are using several features in our cars.  We listen to music, talk on the phone (via Bluetooth where available), amongst other things.  The car is a mobile device where many things are possible for the tech companies.
