iphone55:35 PM – Retina Display, originally introduced inside the iPhone 4 in 2010 revolutionized the displays to a whole now level.  Since then, other companies such as LG and Samsung have poured millions into research and development of top-notch displays.  In the years after the iPhone 4, several companies have surpassed Apple in having better displays.  While the Retina Display is very impressive, currently Galaxy Note 3 holds the crown with the best display on the market.  However, according to a new report from AppleInsider, that may change soon.

Discovered by AppleInsider, a new published patent application filed by Apple back in 2012 shows us that the company is not sitting around.  Apple has been working on an even better display for future iOS devices.  This new technology Apple is working on drastically improves color reproduction and vividness in the display that will debut in future iPhones and other devices.  The patent covers a “quantum dot-enhanced display having dichroic filter.”

“Quantum dots (QDs) are technically nanocrystals – in some cases smaller than a virus – made from various semiconductor materials that exhibit special quantum mechanical characteristics,” AppleInsider writes.  “Of interest to display makers, as well as other industries in the optics field, are QDs’ light-emitting properties. Specifically, the material can be “tuned,” or manufactured, to emit very narrow spectrums of light.”

Currently, we aren’t sure how long it will take for Apple to introduce this technology in the upcoming iPhones and other devices. One thing is for sure though, the technology is on its way and knowing Apple, it will come out with a bang.
