Introducing Alcatel 1X, the first Android Go phone

Last spring, Google took on a challenge to rework Android and have the software running smoothly on lower-end devices. This gave birth to Android Go, technically, “Android Oreo (Go Edition)” and now we have some news about the very first phone that will run Android Go.

Introducing Alcatel 1X, the first Android Go phone to be announced. Truthfully, there isn’t much to be excited about the device because the 1X is a low-end phone. This means that it has to impress on value more than specs, and other bells and whistles.

The Alcatel 1X has minimal specs: quad-core MediaTek processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a 5.3-inch 960 x 480 display. The phone is charged using Micro USB. The one thing the device has going for itself is that the display has a 18:9 aspect ratio, so the bezels on top and bottom are a bit trimmer. The device does not come with a fingerprint sensor, but that’s not very surprising.

The phone will launch in April for €100 for a single-SIM variant and €110 for a dual-SIM variant.
