Google announced earlier this year that it would be integrating an ad blocker into its Chrome browser to help cut down on intrusive and spammy advertisements. According to a report from VentureBeat, Google will be releasing the ad blocker on February 15th, 2018.

Mark your calendars because on February 15th of next year, Chrome will get its own embedded ad blocker. There are a few things to keep in mind, however. The blocker will not remove all ads. It will only remove the ones that are considered bad using standards determined by the Coalition of Better Ads, which bans ads like full page, auto playing sound and video ads, and many more.

To help websites, Google will begin notifying those that are in violation and will see potential blocking through its Ad Experience Report tool. Websites that fail to meet these standards for 30 days will have their ads blocked by Google. This includes those ads “owned or served by Google.” You will then have to resubmit for manual review to have ads re-enabled after bad ads are removed.

The goal of this program is to help publisher weed out bad ads across the internet, and help cut down on users with blanket ad blockers. It’s also worth mentioning that this program does give Google more power over internet advertising.
