If you’re a fan of the sci-fi and horror film Alien, then there’s some exciting new for you. The 1979 classic movie is set to be released in 4K and HDR on the film’s 40th anniversary. The remastered film will be available in UltraHD Blu-ray disc.

Last year, with supervision from Pam Dery and Director Ridley Scott, 20th Century Fox and its partners started the journey to remaster the 1979 sci-fi and horror film in 4K. The movie, Alien, was originally shot on 35mm film, and the remastered version was made using the original negative.

To give you some additional details, the 1979 theatrical version and the 2003 director’s cut of Alien will be included in the release. Audio for the director’s cut is mastered in DTS-HD MA 5.1, but will be only 4.1 surround for the theatrical version. There will be two versions of the theatrical version.

There will be new commentary from Ridley Scott and other members of the cast and crew on the new discs, and may also include commentary from 1999 and perhaps deleted scenes too.

You will be able to purchase the UltraHD Blu-ray from a number of retailers, but only Best Buy will offer the exclusive steelbook edition with artwork and many extras.

The remastered version of Alien is set to come out on April 23. Will you get your hands on it?
