While T-Mobile has been doing well for itself in the recent years, adding in a lot of subscribers, Sprint on the other hand has been struggling to attract new clients. As the third and fourth largest wireless carriers in the United States, both are resuming talks of a potential merger. Merger talks have been going around for some time now, and it seems that the two companies are back on the table to discuss details further, according to a report from CNBC.
CNBC states that the two companies are now actively engaged in discussing a possible merger. Sprint’s parent company, Softbank, has previously made a bid to purchase T-Mobile, but the bid was drawn due to regulatory challenges to getting the deal approved.
Individuals close to the situation are stating that there is no deal set in place yet, and it’s not certain if there will ever be a deal set in place. Even if a deal is reached at a certain point, both sides will have to go through regulatory approval, again. There could potentially be serious antitrust issues as well.
T-Mobile has been doing incredibly well for itself under the leadership of CEO John Legere. The report notes that T-Mobile isn’t quite ready to take-in Sprint, and isn’t currently far enough in the legal or logistical proceedings to potentially get the merger through, should it reach that point.
