Apple to stop taking iTunes LP submissions as of this month

Back in 2009, iTunes 9 brought new tools for artists and labels to pack in extra album material like art, videos and bonus soundtracks in their offerings. Now, according to a leaked Apple document, found by Metro, it seems that things are coming to an end for bundled extras. Apple also confirmed to The Verge later that the company will indeed stop taking new iTunes LP submissions as of this month.

While there are no more submissions being accepted, existing ones that you’ve previously bought will continue to always work. Any iTunes LPs that are currently in the iTunes Store will similarly continue to be available, but no new submissions are being accepted. The Verge notes that these have never been part of Apple’s music strategy, so it makes sense that the company is closing the door on it when it’s not really needed.
