PS4 sales are slowly nearing 100 million milestone

Sony, during its CES keynote, announced that it has sold 91.6 million PS4 consoles worldwide so far (overall). Over the past 12 months, the company has sold 18 million PS4 units, and sold 5.6 million of those 18 million units in previous holiday season alone (Nov. 19 to Dec. 31).

This news comes as a slight surprise because earlier this year, Sony gaming chief John Kodera said that sales of the console would begin to slow down due to it reaching its saturation point. For comparison, Sony was able to move 20.2 million units in 2017, so while the 18 million is a bit lower, but nonetheless still impressive for a console that has been around for over five years.

Aside from unit figures, console games did pretty well over the holidays. Sony announced that 50.7 million PS4 titles were sold during the holiday season, which brings the sales total to 864 million as of December 31st, 2018. In particular, Spider-Man did very well by selling over 9 million copies from when it launched in September until November 25th. Lastly, Kodera announced that the PlayStation Network now has a staggering 90 million monthly active users as of the end of November 2018, which is a bump of 10 million users from May 2018.
