To compete with services like UberEats and DoorDash, GrubHub is now expanding its partnership with Yelp to deliver meals from over 80,000 US restaurants on its website and app. If you remember, last fall, GrubHub acquired Yelp’s Eat24 director to tune of $288 million, and now this finalizes it all. What’s in it for Yelp? Well, it will get an undisclosed cut of every GrubHub order made through its service.
GrubHub has more than doubled the restaurants it will offer to deliver to, the company hopes to also vastly cut down on delivery fees on an overall scale. For example, if drivers make multiple deliveries in a single trip, this effectively cuts down costs per order.
“I see a point where we could conceivably have extremely low if not free delivery for consumers,” GrubHub chief executive Matt Maloney told The Wall Street Journal.
What’s the point of having a food delivery service service if the cost of delivery is insanely high, right? That’s what GrubHub hopes to vastly cut down on and grad customers from the likes of services such as UberEats and DoorDash.
