Yesterday, many Oculus Rift owners were reporting that their headsets stopped working, due to an expired certificate. The company apparently forgot to renew the security certificate, which caused the Rift app to crash and prevent access to the VR software. There was a temporary fix, which involved setting a computer’s date to earlier in the week, Oculus has now issued a software update to fix the problem.

The software fix is available on Oculus Rift website, and includes a certificate that is not expired. Oculus took to Twitter to thank owners for their patience while they worked on the problem, and co-founder Nate Mitchell also apologized for the embarrassing event. Mitchell promised Rift owners affected by the issues “will be provided with an Oculus store credit.”

The latest Oculus incident is a reminder to all developers that they should make sure to renew their certificates in a timely fashion so that their customers aren’t experiencing downtime.
