Google’s latest hardware offering, Pixel 2, has caught everyone’s attention in the industry. It comes packed with a lot of great features that suit every type of user. Despite good attention, the company has been facing several issues regarding the Pixel 2 XL.

Google’s flagship phone has had display issues, including color inaccuracy and image retention. Not only that, some have reported that Pixel 2 phones are shipping without an operating system installed on it. Now Google has another issue on its hands where users are reporting slow battery charging.

Google+ user Nathan K used a series of tools to measure the speed of which the Pixel 2 XL gets charged. According to Nathan’s findings, the reports of slow charging are absolutely true. Per his tests, he says that the Pixel 2 XL is “functionally capped at 10.5 watts” when you start charging from a low percentage. The charging decreases “exponentially” after the battery reached 65% charge.

“This suggests to me Google or LG is trying to avoid strain on the battery in order to maximize longevity,” Nathan writes. “Rather than opting for performance, they are being extremely conservative with the charging current and temperature.”

Capping the charging at 10.5 is baffling to say the least. Google ships the Pixel 2 XL with an 18W charger to take advantage of the phone’s fast charging capabilities. According to Nathan, the phone never comes close to hitting 18W, and averages far below what it’s supposed to charge at.

Google has yet to comment on this issue. Given the issues already on the growing list, it may be a while before we hear anything from the search giant regarding its new hardware.
