Roku dives into programming content with launch of the Roku Channel

Roku is a well-know software and hardware company that provides a streaming experience at an affordable cost. Roku just took a big step into programming content. The company today introduced a free movie channel called the Roku Channel, Variety reports.

Thanks to numerous licensing deals, Roky’s free movie channel will feature movies from popular studios such as MGM, Lionsgate, Warner Bros., and Sony Pictures Entertainment. This is the first time in the company’s history that it has licensed a large number of movies under a Roku-branded channel.

Since the company is planning to have even more massive growth and file for an IPO, this move isn’t surprising. While Roku may be both software and hardware company, it’s still not at the level of where Amazon and Apple are. Roku is mostly stuck being a hardware company that include streaming boxes and video stocks.

The company says that the free movie channel will be rolling out in phases “over the coming weeks.” Those of you who are users and supporters of Roku, be on the lookout for this service.
