Fornite is putting up another $100 million in prize money

Epic Games, the creator of popular Battle Royale game Fornite, is putting in another $100 million in prize money for competitive tournaments throughout 2019.

Last year, Epic Games made headlines when it announced $100 million in prize pool for the 2018 competitive year, crushing every other competitive title very quickly. This year, a significant portion of the $100 million will be given to participants of the first-ever Fortnite World Cup. There will be 200 players that can qualify and each of the players will walk away with at least $50,000 cash, with the number one winner taking home $3 million.

How can you get into the tournament? Well, Fornite will be holding weekly open online qualifiers, each worth $1 million, starting April 13th thru June 16th. Eligible players who are consistent in their placing through these qualifiers will have their shot at being one of the top 200 players.

Announcement of another $100 million in prize pool comes at a very interesting time. With releases of titles like Apex Legends, they are gaining popularity on top of Twitch directory where Fornite has enjoyed the throne for quite some time. Streamers like Ninja, Shroud, High Distortion and Timthetatman have begun investing more time into games like Apex Legends and have started participating in the first Apex Legends Twitch Rivals tournament.

With new titles release and more in the future, Epic Games wants to make sure they keep the attention of popular streamers to help Fornite stay mainstream. With a game that brings in $300 million a month for in-game purchases, putting out $100 million in cash prize is a small investment to make sure the game stays a top priority for everyone playing.
