Google AI Plus subscribers will lose the ability to select Pro models in the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Google Search on Nov. 13, 2026, according to Android Central. The plan costs about $5 a month in the US, and Pro access moves behind Google AI Pro at about $20 a month. Flash models stay on Google AI Plus. The date comes from an email sent to subscribers and not from a public Google announcement, so each subscriber’s own email is the reliable source for timing. The Jolt Journal’s math below shows what the move to Google AI Pro would add up to over a year.

What changes for Google AI Plus on Nov. 13

Android Central reports that Google’s email says Pro models will “move behind the more expensive Google AI Pro subscription” starting Nov. 13. Gadget Hacks adds that the notice reached subscribers by email, that a separate Google announcement had not been published, and that its sources were a subscriber email reviewed by 9to5Google and reports from other subscribers. Android Central says a Reddit user spotted the email and that Droid-Life reported on it.

The restriction covers two places. In the Gemini app and in AI Mode in Search, selecting a Pro model will require Google AI Pro or above, per Gadget Hacks. Google AI Plus keeps Flash and Flash-Lite. Gadget Hacks reports that previous chats started on a Pro model can continue on a different model, and it does not describe those conversations as deleted.

Google AI Plus and Google AI Pro compared

The table below combines the plan details reported by Android Central and Gadget Hacks. Prices are US monthly figures as reported.

Plan Monthly price Model access Other items reported
Free $0 Flash-Lite only, per The Verge via Gadget Hacks Limited since Oct. 9
Google AI Plus $4.99 Flash and Flash-Lite after Nov. 13 400 GB of cloud storage
Google AI Pro $19.99 Pro models, including Gemini 4 Argon YouTube Premium Lite, Google Home Premium, Google Health Premium, 5 TB of storage
Google AI Ultra $99.99 Includes Gemini 4 Argon Higher limits and more premium features

Gadget Hacks says the gap between Google AI Plus and Google AI Pro is $15 a month. Android Central describes Pro as four times the price of Plus.

What the Google AI Plus change costs over a year

The figures below are the Jolt Journal’s own arithmetic from the reported monthly prices. They show what a subscriber who wants to keep selecting Pro models would add by moving from Google AI Plus to Google AI Pro.

Item Monthly 12 months
Google AI Plus $4.99 $59.88
Google AI Pro $19.99 $239.88
Added cost of moving to Pro $15.00 $180.00

Pro costs 4.006 times as much as Plus on these prices, which matches the “four times” description. The added $180 a year buys more than model selection. Android Central lists YouTube Premium Lite, Google Home Premium, Google Health Premium, and 5 TB of storage among the Pro extras, so the value of the upgrade depends on whether a subscriber would use those items anyway. The reports do not say whether Google plans any discount, refund, or proration for Plus subscribers who stay and lose Pro selection.

What Google AI Plus subscribers keep

Gadget Hacks reports that Google AI Plus keeps Flash and Flash-Lite, and that Google told The Verge the plan keeps low, medium, and high effort settings on supported models. Higher effort uses up usage limits faster. Other Google AI Plus features named in the report include voice features in Gmail and Keep, AI Inbox, and Daily Brief, with availability varying by product and region. Digital Trends reports that Plus has twice the free usage limit and Pro has four times, though the exact limits are not published in the reports reviewed.

What the reports on Google AI Plus do not confirm

Several points remain open in the coverage:

  • Why Google is removing Pro selection from Google AI Plus. Gadget Hacks treats any explanation as speculation.
  • Whether Flash at high effort matches Pro-class results. Google’s performance claims for Gemini 4 Argon come from Google’s own benchmarks.
  • Whether the change applies the same way across every product that carries Gemini, including Workspace.
  • Regional differences and how billing cycles interact with the Nov. 13 date.
  • Refund, proration, or grandfathering policies.

Checks for Google AI Plus subscribers before Nov. 13

Gadget Hacks suggests five checks. First, look for the subscription change email in the account tied to the plan, and follow its help link. Second, identify any long-running conversations that rely on a Pro model. Third, test a recurring task, a coding question, or a research prompt on Flash. Fourth, review which Google AI Plus features are actually used. Fifth, confirm which Google product is being used, since the report does not confirm the change applies the same way in Workspace.

The same report lists three paths. A subscriber who mainly uses quick prompts or the non-model features can stay on Google AI Plus. A subscriber who needs higher-end models for coding, research, or multi-step work can move to Google AI Pro. A subscriber who rarely used Pro selection can cancel, with the caveat that free accounts are described as limited to Flash-Lite, so standard Flash would be lost as well.

Where the Google AI Plus change fits

The Jolt Journal’s comparison of ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini lists how the major assistants price their plans. The pattern also appears outside AI: the Discovery+ price increase raised plan prices by $1 and $2 a month, while this change keeps the Plus price and narrows what it includes.

Editor’s take

The Google AI Plus change is a reduction in features at an unchanged price, and the cost of getting the lost feature back is $15 a month, or $180 a year. The sourcing is thin on official detail. The date and wording rest on a subscriber email relayed by several outlets, and Google has not published a separate announcement, so subscribers should read their own email. The practical test is the one Gadget Hacks proposes: run a real recurring task on Flash before deciding whether Pro selection was ever being used.

This is general information, not financial advice. Google’s help pages and the email sent to each subscriber have the final word on plan terms and dates.
