We’re convinced that Sony‘s WH-1000XM3 headphones are one of the best headphones available on the market. After rigorous testing, we’re convinced that that they are the best headphones in their class.

Sony‘s WH-1000XM3 have excellent sound quality, great noise-canceling, and overall are just welcoming to wear with their level of comfort. They come with the right blend of features that made it very easy to use all day long.

Previously, Sony did a great job on their prior models, and now they’ve through the new WH-1000XM3 model that’s feature packed.

The question you’re asking is: are they worth it?

We’ll give you all the details and provide our recommendation. After that, we’ll leave it up to you to decide.

Our Rating

  • 4.5 out of 5

Pros: WH-1000XM3

  • Very helpful app paired with the headphones
  • Best-in-class battery life
  • Great built quality
  • Excellent sound quality
  • Very effective and customizable noise-canceling experience

Cons: WH-1000XM3

  • Unable to connect to more than one device at a time

If you have an Android or iOS device, you’ll be able to find even more use for your WH-1000XM3 headphones. Not only does the app provide a numerically expressed battery reserves as a percentage, it offers an Adaptive Sound Control feature. This feature optimizes your noise-canceling for the listener’s environment. So this means that whether you’re traveling in a car, a train, or an airplane, the headphones will analyze the ambient noise and apply the correct level of noise-canceling.

Additionally, the app allows the user to manually dial back noise-canceling, if desired. A Focus on Voice feature also allows voices specifically to break through the total noise. You can also adjust EQ levels, engage with the Sound Position Control feature that allows you to position audio in specific places, such as in front of them, on either side, or behind them.

The WH-1000XM3’s battery life is no joke. Sony claims that the headphones will last five hours on just 10 minutes of charging and we’re happy to report that their claims are absolutely true. In our tests, the headphones were at 10 percent and after just 15 minutes of charging through the USB-C interface, we were able to use them for more than 17 hours in total, with some to spare.

If you’re a frequent traveler, you should definitely consider Sony‘s WH-1000XM3 headphones because going on a trip with a quick charge before you leave the house is awesome. Even if you just got to the airport and you have 15 minutes before boarding starts, you can plug them into a charging area and have the headphones entertain you for hours at a time.

We’ve tested the 1000x-series previously and they’re all quite comfortable if you’re looking to use them long-term, but we have to say that the WH-1000XM3’s have some more noticeable improvements that bring their overall experience to a new level.

The WH-1000XM3’s come with a slimmer provider but the interior of ear-cup’s is deeper. The headband of the device has an altered radius that allows you to fit it better and more comfortably around your head. This, in turn, allows for less clamping force. Not to mention there’s also more padding around the headband as well.

When you first pick up your WH-1000XM3’s, they come with a reinforced carrying case, and a mesh pouch on the side as well. Unfortunately, there’s no carabiner included, but there is a ribbon loop on the case, in case you want to attach them to your backpack or travel bag.

Taking a look inside the case, you will find the headphones in either black or silver, depending on the color selection you made. With the headphones, you will get the USB-C charging cable, an airline adapter, and a 1/8-inch headphone cable.

You can’t forget about the warranty. Sony offers a 1-year limited warranty on the 1000XM3.

To be honest, these headphones will last you a long time, but they will at least last as long as the battery does on them. Since the 1000XM3 require infrequent charging, we’re expecting them to last a lot longe than other competing products.

Our honest opinion: Yes, you should.

You should but the 1000XM3’s with full confidence because they are a product that will match your headphones needs. In most cases, they will exceed them. They are one of the best wireless headphones available on the market.
