Uber has acquired San Francisco bike-sharing service Jump

Uber is further digging into the bike-sharing area. The company announced that it’s purchasing Jump, the bike-sharing platform that features “electric, dock-less” bikes. Jump bikes are interesting because you can drop them off and lock them up wherever it’s legal to park a bike, rather than on a specific rack.

We currently don’t know too many details regarding the acquisition, but it appears that you can order a bike as easy as you’d order a car. In addition, you can continue to use the Jump app if you prefer.

Per TechCrunch, Uber has paid around $200 million to acquire Uber. While Uber has acquired Jump, the bikes are still available in San Francisco. While they still exist, Jump can’t expand beyond 250 bikes until it gets authorization and evaluation from San Francisco Municipal Transportation Authority.
