Previously, Equifax credit rating agency Equifax announced that it experienced a major breach where hackers managed to steal personal information of over 143 million US consumers. This stolen information includes names, Social Security numbers, birthdays, drivers license numbers, addresses, and some credit card numbers.
It seems that this may not be all that was stolen, according to The Wall Street Journal. The Journal writes that there may be more information that was stolen than previously thought.
The new revelation comes from a document submitted to the Senate Banking Committee, which says that hackers had accessed some additional personal information beyond from what was previously reported. Now, it appears that the information exposed includes tax identification numbers, which are used when someone doesn’t have a social security numbers. In addition, credit card information, e-mail addresses, and some additional drivers license information, as well as the states and dates in which the licenses were issued to a person.
According to an Equifax spokesperson that told WSJ, they said that a small number of e-mails were compromised in the breach, and that the company had already sent notifications to those whose credit card information was compromised.
