Apple introduces new ‘Families’ page where it shows off parental features

If you head on over to Apple’s website, you will notice a dedicated page for family features and parental control. The page brings together the compan’y existing tools, such as the Ask To Buy tool, purchase-blocker and website restrictor, all into a single page. This makes it easier for parents to manage their kids’ smartphone usage as how they see fit.

Over the years, Apple has been criticized by two of its own shareholders, who say that the company must address a “growing public health crisis” of smartphone addition in younger individuals. Apple’s own Tim Cook talked about the potential risks of modern technology, and that he wouldn’t want his own nephew on a social network.

Responding to the shareholders’ open letter, Apple said that it planned to incorporate new controls into its phones to give parents more control over the way their children use the devices, rather than the existing “all or nothing” features that only focus on blocking access to apps and sites.

“As one of the most innovative companies in the history of technology, Apple can play a defining role in signaling to the industry that paying special attention to the health and development of the next generation is both good business and the right thing to do,” they argued. Apple has agreed with them, and will likely introduce more advanced parental controls in the future iOS version, likely iOS 12.
