This morning, United and Delta airlines announced that they are ending their travel partnerships with the National Rifle Association amidst of a greater public backlash against the organization. Previously, both airlines had set up discounts for NRA members ahead of the organization’s annual convention in May. This discount would offer members anywhere from 2 to 10 percent off their flights to Dallas.
In a tweet, Delta says that it has reached out to the NRA it end the discounted rates through its group travel program. In addition, Delta requested that the organization remove its name from the travel website.
It’s not just Delta that tweeted the announcement. United Airlines tweeted that it will no longer offer the special discount rate for the meeting and has requested the NRA to remove its name and deal from the travel website.
The NRA has continuously received consumer backlash following the school shooting in Parkland, Florida last week where 10 people died. Companies such as Symantec, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, First National Bank of Omaha, and many others have ended their exclusive discount partnerships with the NRA. At this time, the NRA’s travel page still lists the airlines as partners for the convention.
