tesla model y suv set to debut on march 14th

On Sunday, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that the company will unveil its Model Y crossover SUV on March 14th during an event it will hold. The event is set to take place at the company’s design studio in Los Angeles.

Model Y will be the company’s fifth electric car since its founding in 2003. In terms of details of the vehicle, it will have 75 percent parts related to the Model 3, 10 percent bigger, cost around 10 percent more, and will have range a little less than the Model 3 offering. So far, Model 3 has been the most affordable electric vehicle the Tesla has offered.

If you’re a fan of the “Falcon Wing,” the Model Y will not have the those types of doors that are found on Tesla’s bigger SUV, the Model X. Additional details about the Model Y will be revealed at the event, according to Musk, and the company will offer test rides for those at the event. This also means that the company has a few pre=production models that are finished for showcasing. Also on Sunday, Musk said that Tesla will unveil its electric pickup truck “later this year.”

The Model Y will be built at Tesla’s Gigafactory outside Reno, Nevada, and will enter mass production in 2020. Eventually, the company plans to mass produce the vehicle at its Gigafactory in Shanghai, China.

Three days ago, Musk announced the highly-anticipated $35,000 version of the Model 3. This announcement comes just a few days later. It’s also worth noting that the company is switching its sales model to becoming an online-only order company. In order words, the company is closing majority of its physical stores and will likely keep a few in certain area.

Lastly, Musk also tweeted on Sunday that a third version of its “Supercharger” electric car charging stations will be revealed in the company week. On Wednesday, March 6th, at 8PM PT, the first public station will go live, but location will not be revealed.
