If you loved playing Tom Clancy’s The Division, the game is officially getting a sequel. During today’s “State of the Game” streams that developers from Ubisoft hold, they announced that the team is working on The Division 2. Why is the company going for a sequel instead of an expansion? The developers say that there are still a lot of stories to tell in the game. The game is being worked on by the same team and studios within Ubisoft (this include Massive Entertainment). The team also really wanted to show off how far the game’s engine has come since the first game was released two years ago today.
While we know now that The Division 2 is coming, we won’t be any more information from the developers until E3 roles around. If you’re wondering the original game is going to be abandoned, the developers said they’re not. The upcoming “strawberry” update will continue the global in-game events. This also includes an enhancement patch for the Xbox One X.
The developers will be releasing four new missions that will be available in “legendary” difficult, and an additional pair in the 1.82 “parsnip” update. To link the original game to the sequel, completing and unlocking things in the current game ad you’ll get in-game rewards in The Division 2 when it’s released. So no, you aren’t going to be wasting your time playing The Division, so keep grinding away. The developers won’t let your efforts go to waste.
When The Division originally launched, it was plagued with lots of bugs, exploits and other issues. Because of this, the game’s population dwindled over time and continues to. As a Division player myself, I hope that Ubisoft doesn’t repeat the same mistakes that Bungie has made with Destiny 2 (I play Destiny series as well). Though, Ubisoft does know how to make a sequel. Just take a look at the Assassin’s Creed series.
