Airbnb may focus almost all of its attention on home rentals, but the company is also looking to really expand on its Experiences this year. The company will be investing $5 million in expanding Experiences from 50 cities to 200 cities across the US. They’re looking to increase effort in enticing more people to get up and travel around.
In the company’s announcement, they shared some growth figures related to the Experiences feature: Airbnb said global weekly guest booking are up over 2,000 percent since last year and number of Experiences are up by 500 percent. This is a staggering increase, so it’s not surprising to see the company now investing some serious cash into expanding. The company now has 4,000 Experiences on offer around the world and 1,000 across 50 cities in the US.
Right now, it’s a bit tough to tell if the company’s numbers will continue to increase as it expands Experiences in 200 US cities. If numbers do start increasing at the rate it’s currently seeing, this would definitely be a great source of income for the company. Right now, it takes a 20 percent cut from the activities that are listed on its website. This is also important because a lot of the Experiences listed are not cheap.
