Netflix decides to not move forward with ‘patches’ for kids

The feature will no longer get wide reach.

Previous reports suggested that Netflix was testing a new rewards program wherein children could earn “patches” for watching shows like Fuller House and Series of Unfortunate Events.

The patches didn’t really bring any additional benefits or unlock any new content, critics of the project said that it would encourage children to watch too much TV. The feature was in test phases with no guarantee of a full launch, and now it appears that the feature will no longer be made public.

Netflix told our friends over at Engadget that the feature will no longer see a wide release. A company spokesperson told Engadget, “We’ve concluded the test for patches and have decided not to move forward with the feature for kids. We test lots of things at Netflix in order to learn what works well — and what doesn’t work well — for our members.”
