Pre-orders for Atari VCS start May 30th, but will now ship until 2019

Gaming enthusiasts have been eagerly waiting for the Atari VCS to be released ever since it was revealed last year, and they will now get the chance. Atari is offering two versions: a “time-limited” Collector’s Edition that features the faux wood-front paneling and the $200 Onyx Edition, which is straight black. Interestingly, neither of these include a controller because “other packages will include the Classic Joystick and Modern Controller.”

In terms of what the system will be capable of, Atari announced on Monday that it has partnered with AMD for the console’s processor. The console will bring support for 4K resolutions, HDR and 60fps gameplay. Additionally, it will offer built-in WiFi, USB 3, Bluetooth 5 and internal and external storage options.

Right now, we don’t actually know what we’ll actually be able to do with the console. Seeing as there’s support for 4K, HDR and 60fps, is it safe to assume that the company has something big in the works? Maybe. Only time will tell. Though what we do know is that it will support “a fill range of popular modern titles,” but we don’t know what those are, yet.

Atari is expecting the console the begin shopping in the Spring of 2019. Are you looking forward to it?
