Facebook now faces a lawsuit from user for disclosing data to Cambridge Analytica

While federal, state and other legislative officials from both US and UK are seeking answers from Facebook regarding the data sharing with Cambridge Analytica, it appears some aren’t going to wait around to see what is found. Per Bloomberg, a Facebook user has filed a sued against the company on shale of many others whose information ended up with Cambridge Analytica, which managed to acquire data on 50 million Facebook users in 2015.

The user, Lauren Price of Maryland, has filed a suit against Facebook today in federal court in San Jose, California. The lawsuit specifies Facebook allowed her and other users’ personal information to be siphoned without authorization. In addition, the lawsuit asserts claims of negligence and violations of California unfair competition laws, Bloomberg points out.

“This case involves the absolute disregard with which defendants have chosen to treat plaintiff’s personal information,” Price’s lawyers said in her complaint, according to Bloomberg. “Facebook, for its part, knew this improper data aggregation was occurring and failed to stop it, or actively avoided discovering such knowledge in order to profess supposed ignorance.”

This is just one of many lawsuits that Facebook faces and will continue to face in the future. Company shareholders also sued Facebook for stock price slump caused by the backlash against the company’s failure to protect user privacy. So far, Facebook has lost $50 billion in market value this week.
