Disney has hired former Samsung, Apple exec for its streaming service

Disney is preparing to launch its own streaming service next year. In all of this, it appears that the company has managed to snap a key executive for its streaming efforts. Variety reports that Disney has hired Kevin Swint (LinkedIn) to run its streaming operations.

Swint worked for Apple for five years. He eventually ran its iTunes movies business worldwide, before managing content and launching Milk Video for Samsung. Swint has now taken helm at Disney as the SVP and GM of BAMTech Media company where he will be in charge of creating and running the company’s new streaming service that will compete with the likes of Netflix.

Disney’s new streaming service will be hone to new releases from 2019 and on. This includes Star Wars and Marvel movies, and could add much more content if its purchase of Fox is allowed to become official.

We don’t have many details regarding the streaming service, but CEO Bob Iger said during an earnings call that it will be priced cheaper than Netflix. We’ll just have to wait and see how Disney manages content and operations for its new service.
