Reveal suggests Apple to add wireless charging in new iPhones

Android users have had the pleasure of wireless charging for quite a long time now. Unfortunately for iPhone users, that feature never came to any of the iPhones, until this year. A new component leak suggests that Apple has added wireless charging for the iPhone 8, iPhone 7s, and iPhone 7s Plus.

Spotted on Weibo, the images show the purported component that enables wireless charging for all of the upcoming Apple iPhones. The part is placed on the back of the iPhone 8 and iPhone 7s, right under the rear glass.

It’s worth noting again that all 2017 iPhone models are rumored to feature “glass sandwich” designs, meaning that the front and back covers are all glass mounted on a metal frame (remember iPhone 4/4s?).

We know from previous experiences of the iPhone, more specifically the iPhone 4/4s, that adding glass doesn’t make the phone very durable, but it does allow the phone maker to add in wireless charging capabilities. Glass phones unfortunately are also very prone to breaking easily.

We have no way of confirming that these images are legitimate until they are released and a breakdown of the device is done. But since the phones are already in mass production, it does give us some hope that these leaks have some credibility.

While Apple may be including wireless charging, you could end up having to buy a wireless charging accessory for the functionality instead of the phone coming with a wireless charger in-box.
