Mobile sales dominated Cyber Monday this year

Cyber Monday 2017 has been considered to be the biggest sales day for online and mobile sales in the US. In total, online sales from Cyber Monday brought in $6.59 billion, and sales from mobile set a new record by reaching $2 billion. Additionally, for the first time every, mobile dominated over desktop for Shopify merchants, which include brands such as Tesla Motors and Kylie Cosmetics, according to Shopify.

One of the main reasons why mobile has set a new record is because retailer apps and mobile wallet services have made it a lot easier for consumers to shop directly on their mobile devices, Business Insider reports. According to Adobe Analytics data, seventy-five percent of millennial were likely to shop more on their mobile devices than on computers.

In terms of what items dominated Cyber Monday, some of the top-selling items include AirPods, Google Chromecast, Rocky devices, Samsung Tablets, iPads, and Sony PlayStation VR headset. Super Mario Odyssey was the best-selling video game, and in terms of consoles, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One were among the most popular being bought.

Amazon also brought in a lot of sales. While it kept actual numbers out of its post-Cyber Monday press statement, it did mention that it sold millions of Alexa-enabled devices over the weekend and that Echo Spot was completely sold out. Amazon’s Echo Dot performed the best at Whole Foods stores in the US.

While Cyber Monday sales seem impressive, they are second compared to Alibaba’s Singles Day numbers in China. The nationwide celebrated day in China was invented by Alibaba fell on November 11th, and brought in $25.3 billion in sales this year. This sales number is considerably bigger than Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales combined in the US.
