Microsoft is discontinuing Kinect Adapter for Xbox One

When the Kinect was introduced with the Xbox 360 in 2010, it made headlines as to offering a new experience on the market. Unfortunately, there simply weren’t enough games that utilized the hardware and the Kinect has continued to fall behind.

This week, Microsoft confirmed to Polygon that it has one ceased production of the Kinect Adapter. This accessory was the only way for Xbox One S, Xbox One X and Windows users to hook up their Kinect to their devices, and now the hardware is gone for good.

“After careful consideration, we decided to stop manufacturing the Xbox Kinect Adapter to focus attention on launching new, higher fan-requested gaming accessories across Xbox One and Windows 10,” a spokesperson from Microsoft told Polygon this week. If you think that the accessory may return some day, a company spokesperson said that the company’s roadmap wasn’t up for discussion, but also confirmed that the adapter “will no longe be available.”

Polygon notes that the adapter has been virtually sold out at every online retailer for months. Sellers are now charging upwards of $200 for the adapter. This pretty much guarantees that if you don’t have one, good luck trying to get one by paying a high-priced accessory. Xbox One Kinect was discontinued last October, so you’re not going to miss out on any exclusive content for the Kinect. It’s official now though: the Kinect is dead.
