Apple speaks out over NSA’s iPhone program

Apple-StoreEver since Edward Snowden released documents showing what the National Security Agency (NSA) has been doing, the agency has been under the spotlight and under fire from the general population in the United States.  Recently uncovered, one of the programs mentioned was called DROPOUTJEEP.  This program allows for NSA to take complete control of iPhone users.  Scary, is it not?

These allegations were made against NSA, and Apple has also taken some heat.  Several individuals have accused Apple of leaving security holes in iOS or is consciously giving authorized access to NSA.  The company released a public statement letting everyone know what they have to say about these allegations.

AllThingsD provides Apple’s full statement below:
“Apple has never worked with the NSA to create a backdoor in any of our products, including iPhone. Additionally, we have been unaware of this alleged NSA program targeting our products. We care deeply about our customers’ privacy and security. Our team is continuously working to make our products even more secure, and we make it easy for customers to keep their software up to date with the latest advancements. Whenever we hear about attempts to undermine Apple’s industry-leading security, we thoroughly investigate and take appropriate steps to protect our customers. We will continue to use our resources to stay ahead of malicious hackers and defend our customers from security attacks, regardless of who’s behind them.”
From NSA’s standpoint, it is believed that the Agency has been rerouting shipments of online orders for the handset before reaching the user, installing spyware, and shipping them off to their destination.  Completely un-spotted and very sneaky, I must say.   For what it’s worth, Apple has been pushing for more transparency against government agencies, amongst other companies.
