Apple reportedly has bought a media-based company, Matcha.tv.  According to a new report by VentureBeat, the Cupertino giant has acquired Matcha.tv for an estimated $1-$1.5 million.  Matcha.tv publicly made an announcement on their website noting the discontinuation of their service.  Matcha.tv was a content aggregator for popular streaming websites like Netflix, Hulu and others.

Here is what Matcha.tv stated on their website:

Dear users of Matcha, we thank you for using Matcha and hope we were able to improve your TV and movie viewing experience. Unfortunately, from today going forward, this service is no longer available. All personal information collected by Matcha has been deleted. If you have any further questions about your account, please email us at: [email protected]

Of course Apple was approached about this, and we got he usual statement from them, saying “Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans.

While Apple has not implemented this technology into their top-set box, the company has lately been showing a lot of interest in the category.  Not too long ago, a software update to the Apple TV brought HBO GO, WatchESPN, Sky News and other channels to users.
