Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 sets new launch day sales record for Activision

The game released on Friday.

On Friday, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 managed to snag a major victory for Activision. The widely-popular first-person shooter set the launch day record for digital releases in entire Activision history, breaking the previous record that was set by last year’s Call of Duty: WWII, the company said on Sunday.

We don’t know the exact sales figures, so all we know is Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has set a new franchise record for the company. What does this mean exactly? Well, this means that the company sold more digital copies in a shorter amount of time on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One than Destiny 2, Call of Duty: WWII, or any other title that Activision has released. It’s worth mentioning that this doesn’t necessarily mean that this is the best-selling Call of Duty game, but is a major improvement over traditional physical sales.

On Friday, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC via Battle.net. The game brings takes a little step back from the usual single player campaign that all fans have been accustomed to. Instead, the game has moved towards the competitive side of things: Battle Royale. Having a Battle Royale mode has opened a lot of new doors and opportunities for the game and franchise.

It’s worth mentioning that the game itself has seen some major improvements. First and foremost, weapons in the game have been a major overhaul, each gun getting its own set of attachments, especially something called “operator mods” that gives weapons extra features that you normally wouldn’t get.

Here are some other highlights, for your reading pleasure:

  • Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 has become the best-selling day-one full game globally on the PlayStation Store.
  • On the Xbox Store, the game became the best-selling Activision day-one digital game.
