Comcast is now bundling Netflix into cable packages

Shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise.

Netflix and Comcast working together? Sounds a big strange, right? Well, you’re not alone. Comcast’s Xfinity cable bundle now includes Netflix. Despite the two companies having their differences, the two have formed a partnership. Since 2016, the Netflix app has been included on Comcast’s X1 platform and is already available as an add-on through customers’ cable bill.

Comcast says that this is now available to both new and existing customers, though varying by market in terms of “new and innovative” offers. It’s also worth mentioning that no matter how customers pay to stream Netflix, it will count as part of the 1TB data cap that Comcast has in place.

Cord-cutting is becoming increasingly popular, and this is a huge concern for all cable companies. While both companies have stayed enemies for years, in a joint statement, the two said nearly 50 percent of X1 customers are “actively” using Netflix on the platform. Additionally, in households that use the app via X1, it’s the most-used platform for streaming Netflix.

Netflix’s global head of business development Bill Holmes said: “We can’t wait to introduce more X1 customers to Netflix with Xfinity’s new packaged offers.” Comcast counterpart Sam Schwartz said: “Netflix offers one of the most popular on demand services and is an important supplement to the content offering and value proposition of the X1 platform.”
