Redesigned Mac Pro to stop in 2019, Apple reveals

If you were thinking to buy the redesigned Mac Pro this year, you’ll have to wait an extra year now. Apple has revealed to TechCrunch that the Mac Pro is now slated to ship in 2019 instead of sometime 2018 that many were expecting. This is good for those that have been holding out for the redesigned Mac Pro to instead opt-in for the iMac Pro, if interested, without having to worry that the new Mac Pro might be released soon, according to Hardware Engineering VP Tom Boger.

Apple has created a Pro Workflow Team that works to optimize the hardware and software based on real production chains, not just abstract goals. The company has made hires in music, video editing, visual efforts and 3D animation to help them produce real projects and pinpoint any and all “bottlenecks,” whether it be an app feature or computer design. The Pro Workflow Team has already helped improve the performance on the iMac Pro, but is also “informing the work” on the Mac Pro, Boger said.

Apple’s push for the redesigned Mac Pro to be released in 2019 isn’t going to really satisfy anyone that’s interested in the machine and the fact that the machine has gone six years without significant hardware revisions doesn’t help either. The question also remains as to whether or not Apple will address what pros really want in the device. While Apple may be responsive to the crowd and showing genuine interest and investment, at this time, there’s no certainty that the device slated for 2019 release will satisfy those that are holding out for it.
