What do you think about having a future iPhone that you can control without even touching it? Sounds exciting, right? Don’t worry, we’re feeling some excitement too. Apple appears to be exploring touchless gesture control and curved screens, according to latest rumors from Bloomberg.
Speaking in terms of the display, it will “gradually” curve inward from top to bottom and it’s still at least two to three years away. The gestures “likely won’t be ready for consumers for at least two years.” This is assuming that Apple continues to to fund the R&D cycle for it.
While Apple hasn’t introduced touchless gestures in the past, companies like Samsung and Motorola have. Though it sounds like Apple’s version of touchless gestures will be a bit different on how they are implemented. Rather than having motion sensors in the bezel, Bloomberg says that the display itself will act as a sensor and your hands will have to be much closer to the screen to register and use touchless gestures.
For what it’s worth, Apple (and other companies) work on technology like this all the time, though not everything makes it to the consumer. So take these rumors with a grain of salt, but stay excited nonetheless.
