Apple will fix bug that caused Siri to read out hidden lock screen notifications

In a statement to MacRumors, Apple said that it will fix a bug that caused Siri to read out hidden lock screen notifications to anyone who communicated with Siri. The company said, “We are aware of the issue and it will be addressed in an upcoming software update.”

We’re not sure when exactly the fix will arrive, but it’s possible that it might come in iOS 11.3, which is currently in beta, or even possibly in iOS 11.2.7 if Apple were to release a minor update.

So what is this bug exactly? Well, the bug allowed Siri to read out lock screen notifications from third-party apps, even if you had your message previews turned off and the phone locked. Siri didn’t check and make sure that the owner of the phone was the person who’s making the request. It’s worth pointing out that iMessage and SMS texts were still kept private from being read out loud, but apps like Facebook Messenger, Slack and email apps could all have their messages read out loud by Siri.
