To combat all the of negative press that Apple has faced regarding slowing down iPhones, the iPhone maker has offered $29 battery replacements as an apology to everyone. Apple on its part didn’t handle the handset slowdowns well, which is a reason why it’s facing multiple class-action lawsuits.
Now, the bigger question here is: do you need to wait until your iPhone actually slows down before you get a new battery into your iPhone 6 or later? No, you don’t, according to MacRumors’ confirmation of an iGeneration report. Apple will replace the batteries on your iPhone 6 or newer models regardless if they pass the usual diagnostic test or not. The diagnostic test recommends replacing a battery if it falls below 8 percent of its original capacity.
Initially, some iPhone owners who jumped quickly on the replacement program were denied fresh batteries since their power packs were otherwise healthy, but not they shouldn’t have any problems during the discount period, which will end in December 2018.
There aren’t any strings attached. You get a fresh battery pack even if you’re slightly worried about your iPhone’s battery. For example, for those of you who picked up an iPhone X last year, you could potentially head down to an Apple Store to get your battery replaced later this year for $29.
