New York Times has reduced free articles limit down to five per month

Previously, The New York Times had a limit of 10 free articles per month for those who didn’t have a subscription. To take it another step backwards, Times made a decision to limit the number of free articles available to any given user. After you read 10 articles, you would hit a paywall that requires a subscription to further read on Times.

Now, according to Bloomberg, the Times has further reduced the reading limit from 10 articles per month to just five articles per month.

While this decision surely wasn’t made lightly, it does make sense. We’re living in a time news cycle is faster than every, and there are many breaking news headlines that can occur at any given point in the day. Times may lose some traffic to its website over this decision, but the it’s making a bet that the decline in traffic will be offset by those who upgrade to paid subscriptions.

If you’re interested in purchasing a subscription with Times, it starts at $15 per month, and granted you access to all articles on the website and the news apps.
