The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has initiated a probe on 840,000 Ford Fusions to see if a recall is needed. There is a big issue happening with the Ford Fusion sedan right now. The NHTSA is investigating approximately 841,000 examples of 2014-2016 Ford Fusion sedan.

This investigation is resulting due to three specific complaints related to steering wheel issues, all of which were submitted to the NHTSA’s Office of Defects Investigation. The investigation is focusing on the fastening bolt that holds the wheel to the steering column.

Two complaints that came in state that the steering wheel became loose while the car was still operating. The vehicles were taken to repair facilities where the bolt was re-tightened. The third complaint, however, is much more extreme. The the third complaint alleges that the steering wheel completely detached itself from the steering column as the driver attempted to turn into a gas station.

So far, there have been no injuries reported and these three complaints are the only ones to have been reported. The NHTSA is further investigating these claims and is making an effort to see if a recall of the vehicle is needed to fix the issue. If the issue is more widespread, then a recall is a sure thing. Ford also could start a voluntary recall instead of NHTSA prompting a recall.
