Google released its latest Pixel 2 smartphones with quite a buzz, but there was something missing in the hardware: a 3.5mm headphone jack. The company decided to follow Apple’s path and removed the headphone jack entirely. Instead, they included a USB-C to 3.5mm dongle with the Pixel 2 phones, it cost $20 to get a replacement. The company has now realized its mistake and is reducing the price of the dongle from $20 to $9.
This is definitely a good move on Google’s part. Apple’s Lightning to headphone jack dongle costs the same, so it’s good to compete. It should be noted that this dongle is not for charging and listening to music.
If you want to do both at the same time, the company lists the third-party Moshi dongle for $44.95. That costs $10 more than the Belkin alternative for the iPhone. As time goes on, you can expect to see other providers start to pop up on places like eBay and Amazon where you will find cheaper alternatives. For now, these are your options.
